17Th Century Horsemans Fighting Axe

Here is a 17th century horsemans fighting axe complete with an iron head and wooden handle. The iron head has a axe blade to the front and a long 'pick' on the back for piercing armour and helmets. The iron head surface shows true aeg with dark patination in areas and pitting. Clear signs of delamination can be seen in the middle area and on the end of the 'pick'. The long wooden handle shows age with a patina to the grained wood surface and especially near the head area. The wooden handle could be the original handle but is possible it dates to the 19th century. The iron head certainly dates to the 17th century. Meausring 45cm long and head measures 21.5cm wide. This weapon was greatly used by cavalry during the 17th century. Favoured for its long reach and severity with one blow. When purchasing more than one item the postage amount is significantly reduced.
